A Google OS by 2010? - OSNews.com
A Google OS by 2010? - OSNews.com: "Start with the world's best search engine with access to the largest body of searchable information and media. Add Gmail: a clean, javascript-based application, stored on a server, accessed via the internet, from which a user can not only compose, read, organize, and search their email, but also quickly access Google's search and other services. Now, look at Google News: a world of online news sources, which can be customized to an individual users preferences. Throw in Google's desktop search, the Picasa photo software, and Firefox (Mozilla and Google have significant overlap in their employed workforces) with live bookmarks, and cool research extensions such as dictionary and thesaurus lookup, linky, launchy, and the like. Extend all of this technology to typical desktop applications like office software, then combine them all into one interface and bundle the OS. Simple, powerful, and totally Google."

RED HERRING | The hundred-buck PC "An engineering prototype is nearly ready, with alpha units expected by year’s end and real production around 18 months from now, he said. The portable PCs will be shipped directly to education ministries, with China first on the list. Only orders of 1 million or more units will be accepted."
This is an old dream that hopefully will come true. In combinantion with Wimax and GNU/Linux one can just guess the speed of economic growth in Africa. Instead of educating people for braindrain or no jobs, there will be many new opportunities in e-healt, e-education, e-business, e-engineering, e-government...

WiMAX - a technology well suited for the developing world
WiMAX Trends - Feature Article: "Another interesting aspect of BWA landscape is that WiMax is a lot like WiFi, but unlike WiFi's 200 Meter range, WiMax has a reach of one to 25 to 30 KM, offering a way to bring the Internet to entire communities without having to invest billions of dollars to install phone or cable networks."

Arabeyes
Islam Online- Science
The biggest language in the world right now is spanish, not english, and with GNU/Linux it will become more and more local constructed software that local people can make use of in their own way. A good example is Arabeyes.

"The US has been imposing patents on life around the world through trade deals. In this case, they invaded the country first, then imposed their patents. This is both immoral and unacceptable", said Shalini Bhutani, one of the report's authors.

Google Toolbar and Firefox is a perfect combination
For some days ago i installed Google Toolbar on my Firefox. Wow!! This means that you will be able to efficient check your mail even on an GSM or a bad telephone line on an old computer, which is very convinient on travel in rural area or parts of the developing world. It has 1000 MB storing space and 10 MB attachement, so you can store your holliday pictures in gmail when the digital camera/video is full).
The "Blogger" is also integrated in Google Toolbar, and it is very simple and fast to make your own blogg, you can choose many nice lay outs: www.blogger.com
Even a newbie like me was able to install all this without any problems.

I have noticed some advantages for deploying GNU/Linux in the developing world. The developed world throw away pc in the same quanum (the Danish bought app. 845 000 pc in 2004) as they are bougth, and with a shorter and shorter lag. At the same time these pc gets smaller, so the transportation costs goes dramatically down. Especially the monitors have been big until for some years ago.

På blogg!
Hei!
